SEAT confirm new big SUV on screen at their annual conference
At SEAT’s annual press conference boss Luc de Meo has confirmed that arrival of a new SUV for SEAT sitting above the Ateca and arriving in 2018.
It’s taken seat a while to give in to the recent obsession by the car buying public for cars that ride high and handle less well. Soft road SUVs, in other words. But it’s paying off.Already on the market, the SEAT Ateca is selling well and seems to be making SEAT money, there’s a new smaller SUV – the SEAT Arona – will arrive later this year, and now we get confirmation of a new SEAT SUV to sit above the Ateca.
Speaking at the annual presentation of financial results today – where SEAT posted a profit for the first time in a decade, boss Luc de Meo confirmed SEAT will deliver a new SUV in 2018, the third prong of SEAT’s SUV attack.
Built on VW’s MQB Platform, the new SEAT SUV will be a seven-seat SEAT take on the Skoda Kodiaq, built in Germany and almost certainly with the same choice of engines and gearboxes as the Kodiaq, it will take on competition like the Hyundai Santa Fe. Not to mention the Kodiaq.
Luca de Mei said:
This car will bring new customers to us, will boost brand image and will have a very big effect on our ability to generate margins. It will be designed in Barcelona and made in Germany. Producing the new SUV in Wolfsburg, in the heart of the Group, will reinforce the ties between SEAT and Volkswagen.
As for a name for the new, big SEAT SUV, it’s down to whichever Spanish city you thing personifies a big SUV most and, we assume, starts with ‘A’.
SEAT Aledo, perhaps?
