The Rolls Royce Wraith British Music Legends with the Tommy sleeve artwork on its bonnet
A series of special Rolls Royce Wraith Coupes are being built to celebrate British Music Legends, from Sir Ray Davies to Dame Shirley Bassey.
The Rolls Royce Wraith arrived four years ago as the slightly caddish Ghost Coupe, aimed at those who want to drive themselves, and flaunt their success with a car that shouts ‘Look how rich I am”.So it’s entirely appropriate that Rolls Royce has decided to deliver a series of Special Edition Wraiths celebrating ‘British Music Legends’, legends who now have a gong or three between them, but many of whom were far from establishment figures in the 1960s.
They include Roger Daltrey CBE, Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Ray Davies – and Mr Ronnie Wood.
The first four Wraiths in the nine car series have been revealed today at the Sanderson Hotel in Fitzrovia (a bit of a BoHo area of London), with cars inspired by Roger Daltrey, Ray Davies and Giles Martin (son of Sir George Martin).
All have appropriate additions from their inspirations, with Daltrey’s efforts (he gets two cars) getting the cover from Tommy recreated on the bonnet and a Bullseye or two, George Martin’s No. 1s embroidered on the Wraith’s waterfall, Ray Davis’s car gets The Kinks logo and all cars get a Union Jack on the C-pillars.
Still to come are cars dedicated to Dame Shirley Bassey – with the lyrics to Hey Big Spender appropriately incorporated – a Status Quo Wraith with a focus on the Telecaster and Ronnie Wood’s Wraith with artwork created by himself (Wood is a talented artist).
An undisclosed percentage of the sale price of the British Music Legend Wraiths will go to a charity chosen by each of the inspirations.
