Smart Electric Drive EVs – ForTwo, ForFour and Cabriolet – on sale in the UK
The electronic versions of the Mercedes Smart Car – ForTwo, ForFour and ForTwo Cabriolet – go on sale in the UK with net prices from £16,420.
It was as far back as September last year when the new Smart Electric Drive models were revealed, with electric versions of the ForTwo, ForTwo Cabriolet and ForFour all offered with a modest range of just 100 miles. And the Smart Electric Drive models are now on sale in the UK.As BEVs, the Smart Evs qualify for the maximum taxpayer bribe for EVs (£4,500), which means you’ll pay £16,420 for the ForTwo Electric Drive, £16,915 for the ForTwo and £18,600 for the ForTwo Cabriolet.
The 80bhp of electric power drives through a single speed gearbox, can get to 62mph in 11.5 seconds and on to 80mph. But if you do all that regularly you won’t get close to the ‘up to’ 100 mile range.
Spec for the Electric Drive models is based on the smart Prime spec, which means heated front seats, cruise, leather, Smart Media with Sat Nav and 15″ alloys.
Charging takes 2.5 hours using a 16A charger, with charging at home on a household socket will take six hours (from 20 per cent to 100 per cent).
If spending a chunk of money on an electric smart doesn’t quite give you the smart you want, you can add Premium Plus spec for £595, which adds LED lights, auto lights and wipers, rear view camera and ambient lighting, and another £595 adds a Design package with Tridion Cell and Mirror caps in electric green, body panels in black or white with matching grille, 16″ alloys and ‘ED’ in grey.
Now on sale at Smart dealers, the first customer Smart Electric Drive models are due to arrive with customer in July.
