2018 Ford Transit Custom REVEALED
The 2018 Ford Transit Custom has been revealed, with the best-selling Transit getting a new look and the promise of a PHEV version in 2019.
If you want a decent size van, you buy a Transit. It’s the default option. From bank blaggers in the 1960s and 1970s – soon after the Transit arrived as a van that drove like a car – to bearded hipster coffee shop owner in 2017, it’s where you go. And now there’s a new Ford Transit Custom to keep those who need an able, sensible size van to make their business work.
The new Ford Transit Custom comes in a choice of two roof heights, two wheelbase lengths and payloads up to 1450kg, a new front end with a new grille and an updated interior.

The new 2018 Ford Transit Custom (pictured) has an interior ‘inspired’ by the new Ford Fiesta
That interior, say Ford, is inspired by the new Fiesta – although the trim material is more industrial – with lots of storage space, fold out cupholders (a fold out sandwich and newspaper holder might have been an idea), Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment, Apple CarPlay and Google Android and a Smartphone dock.
The core engine choice is still the same 2.0 litre diesel with 104bhp, 128bhp and 168bhp versions of offer, with an Econetic version of the 300 SWB with stop-start, low rolling resistance tyres and speed limiter to deliver official economy of 49.6mpg.
Safety stuff like Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive Cruise, Lane Keep Assist and Autonomous Braking are all available.
Also on the way is a plug-in hybrid version (PHEV) of the Transit Custom promising zero-emissions running, although Ford has given no details. It will be available in 2019.
No prices yet for the 2018 Ford Transit Custom – which will arrive in the UK in early 2018 – but it’s unlikely to go up much from the current £25.5k starting price.
