The Porsche Mission E – Porsche’s first electric car – will be priced from the same as an entry-level Panamera when it goes in to production at the end of 2019.
The Porsche Mission E arrived two years ago to demonstrate that Porsche was planning a car to bridge the gap between the 911 and the Panamera – and make it a pure electric car.The Mission E Concept was, and is, stunning, and it didn’t take too long for Porsche to confirm it was heading for production.
But the expectation was it would be a pricey bit of kit, especially as it offered 600bhp and stunning looks. And it’s a Porsche. But actually, it looks like that’s not necessarily the case.
Talking to Car, Porsche’s Oliver Blume has said the Mission E is going to be priced like an entry-level Panamera. Which means from about £70k.
That’s an astonishingly low price point for an electric Porsche, but it does look like Porsche will be delivering the Mission E in a variety of options – just like its other models.
So you can probably expect the range-topping 600bhp, four-wheel drive Mission E to have a price point more like the Panamera Turbo (around £115k) or even the Panamera S E-Hybrid (around £140k).
That means the entry-level Mission E coming with a smaller battery capacity and reduced performance, but even then it’s still going to be a stunning car with impressive performance.
Porsche are also promising an 80 per cent recharge in just 15 minutes (albeit on a 350kW fast charger) which is enough for a 250 mile range, and a promise the Mission E will be as capable and dynamic as every other Porsche.
Look out Tesla.
