Sssangyong Rexton SUV arrives in the UK
The new Ssangyong Rexton SUV is now on sale in the UK, and the first cars have now arrived in the UK after an 8,000 mile trek from Korea via the Silk Road.
The new Ssangyong Rexton SUV was revealed earlier this year, and Ssangyong revealed UK prices and specs for the Rexton just last month. And the first new Rextons are now in the UK (above). But the new Rextons didn’t arrive on a container ship, as you might expect, from South Korea, but undertook a rather more arduous journey.
The journey from the Ssangyong Factory in Pyeongtaek in South Korea involved five Rextons driving via Beijing and the Silk Road to end up at the Frankfurt Motor Show after a 50 day, 8,000 mile trek.
All five cars arrived in time for Ssangyong’s press day at Frankfurt, and two of the cars have made the extra trek to the UK to arrive at the Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials in Oxfordshire, an event sponsored by Ssangyong.
Johng-sik Choi, Ssangyong CEO, said:
This all-new, fourth generation Rexton is a major step forward for the brand. The Trans Eurasia Trail gave us the ultimate test drive opportunity, and a superb way to launch the car in Europe.
This was a huge challenge for the cars and their drivers, and the ultimate test of performance and reliability. The cars equipped themselves brilliantly.
The new Rexton is a decent looking SUV, and although it won’t be the best soft road SUV you can buy, its body on chassis construction does mean it’s likely to be competent off-road. And it’s got decent specs, even at the entry-level of £27,500.
