Jaguar i-Pace EV will charge to 80% in 45 minutes
The new Jaguar i-Pace electric SUV will be able to fast charge to 80 per cent in 45 minutes say Jaguar as they cold weather test the i-Pace in Sweden. Debuts on 1 March 2018.
The last time we had anything directly from Jaguar on the new i-Pace electric SUV was just before Christmas, with Jaguar out playing with the i-Pace in La La Land. Now, Jaguar has gone to rather colder climes in Arjeplog, Sweden (winter home for premium cars) where it’s been letting locals, and the odd journo, see how the electric Jaguar copes in icy conditions.
Unsurprisingly, the feedback on how the i-Pace copes with ice and properly low temperatures is positive, and if the electric SUV can cope with -40C it should be just fine most other places.
Jaguar has revealed in the process that the i-Pace will be able to condition its batteries (when it’s plugged-in) ahead of a journey to maximise range, and that it will be able to use a fast charger to take on 80 per cent charge in 45 minutes, about on a par with Tesla’s Supercharger.
With a total range of around 300 miles from its 90kWh battery pack (other battery pack sizes are a possibility to offer different price points), 0-62mph in around 4.0 seconds and proper build quality (courtesy of Magna Steyr), the i-Pace looks set to be a proper challenge to the Tesla Model X.
It also looks like it will be priced like a Tesla too, with i-Pace prices starting at £72k and heading up according to Jaguar in the Netherlands, although a smaller battery pack version could bring that down to the £60k starting point we’d expected.
The Jaguar i-Pace SUV will be revealed on 1 March 2018, get its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show and go on sale straight away, with first customer cars expected Q3 2018.
