NEW Peugeot 508 heading for a Geneva Motor Show debut
An all-new Peugeot 508 looks to be heading fro a reveal at the Geneva Motor Show as Peugeot try to revive interest in their mid-size saloon.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that Peugeot are now only interested in building appealing SUVs and Hatchbacks, but it looks like they still see life in the mid-size saloon.According to Automotive News, an all new Peugeot 508 is heading for a reveal at the Geneva Motor Show next month – and it could be an interesting reveal.
The mid-size saloon market isn’t doing well for anyone, but perhaps Peugeot are planning to do something a little different with the new 508?
We know it will move on to a new platform – the same EMP2 which underpins the 3008 and 5008 – and that it will feature the latest version of Peugeot’s really rather good i-cockpit. It will also, no doubt, offer more technology and higher quality materials too.
But what will the new Peugeot 508 look like?
The chances are it will still be a traditional saloon car, but there is a chance Peugeot could be bold and deliver a 508 with a little more style and panache than the rest of the mainstream.
Could they be bold enough to take the 508’s design cues from the Peugeot Instinct Concept (pictured above) we saw at Geneva a year ago?
The Instinct Concept came with a new design direction, and with its Shooting Brake styling would certainly offer a new option for the sector.
Of course, the design will be very much tamed down from the concept, but Peugeot has delivered some very good designs of late – we particularly like the new 3008 – and we’d love to see them being bold with the new 508.
But whatever the design, expect the usual array of petrol and diesel engines and, of course, a hybrid or two.
Don’t expect to see the diesel hybrid the current 508 offered, but the Instinct Concept came with a 297bhp plug-in petrol hybrid powertrain, and that may preview the new 508’s hybrid option.
All will be revealed in the coming weeks.
