Porsche considering INCREASING Mission E production as interest grows in their new EV

Porsche considering INCREASING Mission E production

The Porsche Mission E – Porsche’s new electric sports car due to arrive in 2019 – looks set to have its production numbers increased as interest grows in electric Porsches.

The Porsche Mission E is a big gamble by Porsche as it tries to turn its history of delivering stunning ICE cars in to a future without carbon fuel.

But the promise the Mission E is offering, with anything up to 670bhp from its electric motors and performance that will give even the most potent 911 a run for its money, is making Porsche more confident about its electric future.

In fact, Reuters is reporting that Porsche Board Member Detlev von Platen has confirmed Porsche are looking at increasing production of the Mission E thanks to the interest in the car, and are looking to deliver an electric Macan too.

That planned production was initially 20,000 units a year, but back in December Porsche were already mulling production of 30,000 a year instead, so we assume that any revision in production plans will be north of that.

Porsche has already confirmed it’s doubling its investment in hybrid and electric vehicles to £5.3 billion by 2022, and Porsche’s electric future – as long as the Mission E proves as good as it promises – looks rosy.

Of course, Porsche is also buoyed by sales of electrified Panameras in Europe which are running at around 60 per cent of sales – far more in some markets – and it seems Porsche owners are happy to go the electric route just as long as the car that delivers is a Porsche with proper performance.

And with the Mission E expected to be priced very similarly to the Panamera, Porsche are clearly right to consider upping the planned Mission E production plans.

Which must worry Tesla.
