New Toyota Supra TEASED ahead of a Geneva debut
What we’re assuming is the new Toyota Supra – the other half of the BMW Z4 Project – is teased ahead of a debut at the Geneva Motor Show. But is it the new Supra?
We got the first real confirmation that the Toyota Supra would be revived for the 21st century when Toyota and BMW announced they were jointly developing a new sports car in 2013.The Toyota bit of that deal started to come in to focus at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show with the FT-1 Concept which previewed what was to come, but it took until 2016 before we had confirmation the new Supra would arrive in 2018.
We’ve already seen the Concept Z4 at Pebble Beach last year, but more news on the new Supra has been a bit thin on the ground.
So a new post from Toyota on Facebook with a single image (above) and the declaration that ‘The Legend Returns’, does seem to point to the arrival of the new Supra.
That said, Toyota make no mention of the Supra by name, and the thumping great wing on the back of the car in the photo doesn’t look much like a road-going production Supra. Although the FT-1 (you can see it in the video below) did have a big extending spoiler.
But what does seem possible is that Toyota are heading to Geneva with a concept of a new Supra they plan to take to the track.
It seems almost certain Toyota will be adding the ‘Gazoo’ name to the Supra (Toyota Supra Gazoo? Toyota Gazoo Supra? Gazoo Supra?), so some sort of halo track adventures to give that credibility could be the order of the day.
But it seems there will be some sort of new Supra on the Toyota stand in Geneva next month.
