2018 BMW Z4 (or maybe BMW Z5) LEAKS ahead of today’s Pebble Beach debut
The new 2018 BMW Z4 (which could be the BMW Z5) – BMW’s side of the new Toyota Supra – leaks online ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach scheduled for later today.
It’s four years since BMW and Toyota confirmed a new joint venture to deliver a new BMW Z4 (or perhaps Z5) and a new Toyota Supra. That was followed last year by confirmation the cars would arrive in 2018 and now, ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach scheduled for later today, the new BMW Z4 has found its way on to the interwebs (above).
Looking just how you’d expect a new Z4 to look, with a long bonnet, two seat interior, short back end and lots of sky above, it marks BMW’s return to the Roadster market.
Engine options for the new Z4 are expected to include a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine in the sDrive30i and a 3.0 litre six-cylinder with around 330bhp, with rear-wheel drive and a ZF eight-speed automatic.
The fact that the new Z4 and Supra share a common root does raise the prospect of a hybrid powertrain option too, and BMW could make an M version of the Z4 with the 425bhp lump from the M3. Which would be interesting.
More later when BMW reveals the new Z4 officially.
