Jaguar modestly updates the F-Type
The Jaguar F-Type – Coupe and Convertible – is getting a modest makeover for 2018, with new model designations, new paint options and some new technology.
There’s plenty of scope for the Jaguar F-Type to be upgraded and improved, but Jaguar seem intent on the most modest of tweaks for 2018 and the 2019 model year, with little in the way of cosmetic improvements which would make it a standout change. In comes a new naming structure for the F-Type which is starting to arrive across Jaguar and Land Rover models, so the entry-level F-Type becomes the P300, and the V6 models turn in to the F-Type P340 and 380, with the limited edition 400 Sport now dropped. The F-Type R and F-Type SVR stick with their existing monikers.
Mechanical changes are very modest, but all the F-Type range will now come with Jaguar’s brake-based torque vectoring, and the newly named P380 gets a limited slip differential and adaptive dampers as standard.
In the cabin there is now Jaguar’s 10″ InControl Touch Pro Infotainment, which is most welcome, but there’s still no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto – an odd omission.
Despite the modest upgrades for the F-Type, you will be able to make your 2019 MY F-Type stand out from older F-Types with a new paint job, with Jaguar saying there are now 18 new colour options including a matt finish from SVR which costs a thumping £6,000. Buy a wrap, we say.
The 2019 model year F-Type is now a live order, and cars with the new spec will start delivery in the UK next months (May 2018).
