Infiniti to build five models in China
Nissan’s luxury arm, Infiniti, has announced they will build five new models in China in the next five years, starting with the new QX50, and aim to triple sales in China.
Infiniti is still struggling a bit to get to grips with the premium car market in the UK and Europe – although they have some good offerings – but they seem determined to grab a slice of the world’s biggest car market – China. The plan is to build five new models in China in the next five year, starting with the new QX50 SUV, as well as shifting to a fully electrified range as demand for AFVs in China grows quickly.
The aim is to triple Infiniti’s sales in China, which would mean going from the current sales of just under 50,000 a year to around 150,000. Which will be impressive if they can pull it off.
But Infiniti are pitching in to two markets in China which are growing fastest – AFVs and Premium cars – so Infiniti has more than a fighting chance of achieving its goals.
Roland Krueger, Infiniti Chairman, said:
INFINITI is pursuing localization in China for China, expanding our network footprint and introducing new technologies, such as our world’s first variable compression engine (VC-Turbo), and vehicle electrification, such as e-POWER. We will continue to strive to make INFINITI the top premium challenger brand in the market.
Infiniti will be using next week’s Beijing Motor Show to show China the new QX50 SUV for the first time, as well as the Infiniti Q Inspiration concept car to show their future design direction.
