New BMW Z4 M40i TEASED
The new BMW Z4 is teased ahead of a public reveal at Pebble Beach in August, with BMW highlighting the Z4 M40i model as it undergoes testing in France.
The new BMW Z4 – BMW’s Teutonic Twin of the new Toyota Supra – arrived in Concept guise at Pebble Beach last year, and it’s heading back to Pebble BEach this year in production guise, ahead of an official reveal at the Paris Motor Show. It’s still more than two months until Pebble Beach, so it looks like we’re probably in for new BMW Z4 teases for that long as BMW starts to work up interest in their new Roadster.
They’re starting with the model you see at the top – the new BMW Z4 M40i – which is currently at the BMW test centre at Autodrome de Miramas in the south of France to fine tune the drive and suspension systems.
BMW say the new Z4 M40i gets a new, powerful, 6-cylinder engine, lower suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed front axle, M Light alloy wheels, M Sport Brakes and an electronically controlled lock in the back axle.
Jos van As, BMW’s Head of Application Suspension (real title), said:
The vehicle concept of the new BMW Z4 is geared consistently towards agility and driving dynamics.
The high level of body stiffness and the very rigid suspension attachment provide the perfect basis for a set-up that guarantees the performance qualities of a genuine sports car in terms of steering precision as well as longitudinal and transverse acceleration.
Of course, the Z4 M40i won’t be the only new Z4 model, and you can expect entry-level models to make do with a 2.0 litre four-pot.
