Hyundai Ioniq EV N PERFORMANCE on the cards post 2021

Hyundai are planning to deliver electric N Performance models after the current crop of N cars, with the Hyundai Ioniq EV N looking to be in the frame.

Hyundai has moved in to a completely new space with its N Performance brand, and the first ‘N’ car, the Hyundai i30N, is proving to be a big success in Europe.

It will get a sibling too very shortly with the i30 Fastback N debuting at the Paris Motor Show in around six weeks time, and the Veloster N for US petrolheads with the same fun and performance as the i30N. But what of the future for Hyundai’s N?

It does seem almost a given that we will get an N version of either the Tucson or Kona SUVs in the next year or so, and there’s even rumours of a mid-engined Hyundai N – previewed by the RM16 Concept – due to make an appearance at some point. 

Beyond that, Hyundai’s N boss Albert Biermann, speaking to Automotive News, says the N Brand won’t be able to avoid electrification past 2021, and he seems to have a clear idea of what could be done. He said:

As an example, we have an Ioniq EV. Were we to find a nice battery, a bigger motor and inverter, we could make an Ioniq EV N with a nice chassis and more power. Something like that is not fully crazy.

We’re not entirely sure if Biermann’s comments are a pitch to the Hyundai Board or a heads-up to the world, but one thing is for sure – there’s an electric Hyundai N on the way in the next few years.
