DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 PHEV arrives
The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4 is revealed as the DS 7 PHEV as PSA’s move in to electrified cars moves forward. Offers almost 300bhp and 30 mile EV range.
This morning we had the news that the Peugeot 3008 and 508 are heading to market with a plug-in hybrid powertrain next year, so it’s no surprise to find DS doing the same with this – the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense 4×4.The DS 7 Crossback is a sibling under the skin to the Peugeot 3008, so you also won’t be surprised to learn that it will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain pretty much the same as that which sits under Peugeot’s very appealing 3008 SUV.
The ICE bit of the DS 7 E-Tense is a 1.6 litre petrol with 197bhp, with the electric bit taken care of by a pair of electric motors – including one on the back axle for 4WD – each offering 107bhp which, say Peugeot, allows a system total output of 295bhp and 332lb/ft of torque when everything is playing together.
With a 13.2kWh lithium-ion battery under the boot floor, the E-Tense is good for (an official) EV range of 31 miles at speeds of up to 83mph (but don’t expect 31 miles if you’re sitting at 83mph).
The plug-in hybrid has a Zero Emission Mode for EV running, a Sport Mode to throw all the toys at performance, a Hybrid Mode to manage the combination of ICE and EV automatically plus a 4WD Mode for when you need the back wheels to stay engaged to help. You can also ‘Save’ the battery charge for later.
DS say the combination of petrol and electric delivers 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds and a two hour charge on a 6.6kW charger (eight hours if you plug it in to a domestic 3-pin socket).
DS aren’t saying, but we’d guess the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense will costs around £50k when it arrives in the UK, which probably won’t be until this time next year.
