McLaren Speedtail reveals its rear
The McLaren Speedtail – McLaren’s production name for the 3-seat BP23 – reveals its rear ahead of a debut scheduled for 26 October 2018.
The McLaren Speedtail is the car we got used to calling the BP23 as McLaren develop a car which is the true successor to the 1990s McLaren F1. And it will be revealed at lunch time on 26 October.Ahead of the debut, McLaren has released a single image (above) of the long back end which gives the Speedtail its name, and it’s clear it will be a very different looking car to anything McLaren has delivered before.
Apart from the long Speedtail back, the Speedtail will be the fastest McLaren road car ever built and feature the 2+1 seating layout from the F1, with a central driving position flanked by a pair of slightly set-back passenger seats. It will also be the most luxurious McLaren ever built, designed to cross continents and cosset, as well as scintillate, driver and passengers.
Power will come from a hybrid take on McLaren’s V8 promising at least 987bhp and a top speed in excess of the F1’s 243mph, although extreme aerodynamics aren’t expected as the Speedtail is essentially a high speed road car, not a track car made road legal.
Joining the McLaren Senna in McLaren’s Ultimate Series range, the McLaren Speedtail costs around £2 million in the UK, but if you’re hankering after one you’re already too late – all 106 Speedtails are already sold.
Expect a few more teases before the Speedtail gets revealed in full at 1pm on 26 October 2018.
