The Volkswagen T-Cross has been officially revealed as VW add to their range of SUVs with a new baby model aimed at cars like the Nissan Juke and Hyundai Kona.
Volkswagen has been busy teasing the new T-Cross baby SUV, but now it’s officially revealed as VW adds to their range of SUVs with a new model aimed lower down the size scale, and firing a salvo across the bows of the Nissan Juke, Hyundai Kona and any number of other potential rivals.
The tease made us think the T-Cross was going to be a chunk funkier than VW’s normal SUV offerings, but in the flesh it looks more of the same VW corporate, just after a boil wash, but it’s a conservative market VW relishes and the T-Cross looks to fit as the baby of the family.
Sitting below the T-Roc, the T-Cross is 4,107mm long (about an inch shorter than the Juke) and 1,588mm high and sits on VW’s MQB AO platform, with a lot shared with the VW Polo, and does look more like a mini SUV than a Crossover.
VW reckon it’ll take five adults (we wouldn’t want to go too far five-up) and the boot space is decent, offering more than the Golf with seats up (up to 455 litres) and a decent 1,281 litres if you drop the back seats, with an interior not far removed from the Polo’s.
VW are offering a choice of just two petrol engines in the UK (although there will be a diesel option in Europe) with 1.0 litre three-cylinder delivering either 95bhp or 115bhp, with FWD the only offering mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch ‘box.
Safety stuff abounds, with Front Assist, Pedestrian Monitoring, City Emergency Brake, Lane Keep Assist, Hill Start, Blind Spot and Rear Traffic Alert all standard, as well as Driver Alert, Adaptive Cruise and Park Assist as standard.
The VW T-Cross will go on sale in the UK in the early part of 2019. Expect prices to start at around £17k.
