Hyundai Kona Electric has the longest REAL WORLD EV range

The Hyundai Kona Electric has the longest real world range of any electric car on sale in the UK, according to tests by What Car?

We seemed to have almost reached a tipping point for electric cars, with costs coming down, range increasing and real buyers starting to appear beyond the spirited ‘early adopter’ crowd, making the electric car a serious consideration for many.

But despite a growing charging network for EVs in the UK, range anxiety is still prevalent for many, especially as the charging network for EVs does seem to have more than its share of hiccups, with chargers frequently off-line or not working (when did you last go to a petrol station and all the pumps were not working?).

When it comes to petrol and diesel cars, we usually reckon if you take a third off the official average economy you end up with something close to the real world usage, but What Car? has gone further by publishing real world economy figures for ICE cars, and now they’re doing the same for EVs.

Top of the tree for real world EV range is the Hyundai Kona Electric, with a real world range of 259 miles (for the 64KwH version) and an 80 per cent fill in 46 minutes if you can find a rapid enough charger.

That’s followed by the Jaguar I-Pace and Kia Niro EV on 253 miles, with the Smart ForFour EQ managing only a pretty useless 57 miles at the bottom of the pile.
