VW Sharan scores a MAJOR sales hit
The Volkswagen Sharan – VW’s very sensible MPV – has scored a major sales hit in London with private hire firm Addison Lee snapping up 1,200 Sharans.
The private buyer market for people carriers isn’t as buoyant as it once was, but private hire firms still find them an invaluable way to run groups of people around in a practical and profitable way. That explains why London private hire firm Addison Lee has snapped up a fleet of 1,200 VW Sharans, Volkswagen’s MPV offering, to move forward with, even though it’s not exactly the latest MPV on the block.
Addison Lee’s big buy of the Sharan means one in five of its London fleet of private hire vehicles will now be VWs, and it will future-proof them to a degree with the Sharans they’ve bought coming with VW’s 2.0 TDI BlueMotion 150 PS and DSG ‘box.
That’s important to Addison Lee (well, not the DSG ‘box – that’s for the driver’s benefit) because it means the new Sharans will be able to use London’s new ULEZ which comes in to effect in April and requires diesel MPVs to be EURU 6 compliant or face a £12.50 a day charge. And the new Sharans are.
Lisa Burger, Addison Lee’s COO, said:
This multi-million pound investment in new Volkswagen Sharan vehicles will make our entire fleet compliant with TfL’s low emission standards and start the process of moving towards a zero-emissions capable fleet.
And it might even do something for VW’s MPV sales in London too.
