Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept
The Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept is revealed ahead of a Geneva debut as a 400bhp plug-in hybrid performance 508.
It’s almost exactly a year since the very good looking Peugeot 508 arrived, and now Peugeot has decided the time has come to deliver a performance version of the ‘Fastback’ 508 – the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered Concept.Doubtless heading for production, the 508 Sport Engineered Concept gets some styling updates with carbon fibre mirrors, a new front bumper, bigger side skirts and some rather large alloys, with a titivated dashboard, sports seats, new door cards and leather and Alcantara for the interior.
There’s also a 12.3″ digital dash and a 10″ infotainment screen, a carbon fibre touch sensitive gear lever and a carbon fibre steering wheel.
But it’s under the skin where the big differences are, with the 508 Sport Engineered Concept getting Peugeot’s 197bhp 1.6 litre turbo and a pair of electric motors – one at the front good for 110bhp and one at the back good for another 200bhp. Which all sounds rather similar to the Peugeot 308 R.
Add all that together and you get over 500bhp, but you can’t use it all at once so the real usable output is actually around 400bhp. But that’s still quite a lot.
In fact, it’s good enough for a 0-62mph sprint in 4.3 seconds and on to a limited 155mph, with the (usual daft) emissions of 49g/km and an EV range of 31 miles.
Peugeot are calling the 508 Sport Engineered a Concept, but as far as we can see it’s just a mild toning down away from a production version.
You can judge for yourself at the Geneva Motor Show in a couple of weeks.
