Audi has revealed four new plug-in hybrids heading for a public debut at the Geneva Motor Show, and a new moniker – TFSI e – for the plug-ins now e-tron is reserved for their pure electric models. At a stroke, Auid adds four new plug-in hybrid models to its range, with the hybrid Q5, A6 and A7 coming with a choice of tow powertrains – badged 50 TFSI e and 55 TFSI e – with Audi’s 2.0 litre turbo petrol mated to an electric motor on the gearbox in the TFSI 50 for 291bhp 332lb/ft of torque.

In the A8 plug-in there are also two powertrain options, with the 55 TFSI e from the Q5, A6 and A7 serving as the entry-level version, and joined by an A8 60 TFSI e.
The 60 TFSI e uses the same 3.0 litre V6 and gearbox mounted electric motor as thye 55 TFSI e, but with power upped to 436bhp and 520lb/ft of torque, although the A8 uses an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox.
All the new TFSI e plug-in hybrids come with a 14.1kWh lithium-ion battery which is, say Audi, good for 25 miles of EV range, and a trio of modes for powertrain use – EV, Auto and Hold – which do what they say on the tin, as well as comfort, efficiency, auto and dynamic modes for driving.
