2019 Mercedes CLA goes on sale in the UK
The new Mercedes CLA – revealed at CES in January – goes on sale in the UK with prices starting at £30,500 and rising to £36,665.
As cars get more and more like computers on four wheels – and ‘technology’ becomes the driver for sales – Mercedes chose to reveal the 2019 CLA at the CES show in January, rather than at a traditional motor show. But lots of technology or not, the new Mercedes CLA is still a car, it still comes with ICE and it still has four wheels and different trim levels. And now it goes on sale in the UK.
Joining the new Mercedes A-Class range (soon to be followed by the new Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake), the new CLA range kicks off with the CLA 180 and CLA 200, both using the same 1.3 litre petrol with 132bhp and 159bhp respectively and economy of an official 47.9mpg.
In the middle of the range is the CLA 220 with a 2.0 litre petrol and 185bhp – available in 4WD too – with the top of the range, for now, the CLA 250 with the same 2.0 litre engine but tuned to 218bhp and able to get to 62mph in 6.3 seconds.
Standard AMG Line (it’s the base trim in the UK) stuff includes LED headlights, Climate, Keyless, heated seats, wireless phone charging and privacy glass, as well as Mercedes ‘Hey’ MBUX infotainment with 10.25″ screen.
Spend around £1,500 more than the basic prices for Premium trim and you’ll get a matching 10.25″ digital instrument screen, dash camera and custom ambient lighting, with Premium Plus trim (another almost £1,500) adding Panoramic roof, Adaptive LED headlights, memory seats and more.
All the available models come with a seven-speed automatic, but we’re likely to see a manual ‘box option as the range increases, diesel engine options arriving and the AMG 35 and 45 models turning up in due course.
The 2019 Mercedes CLA is now on sale in the UK with first customer deliveries expected in the summer.
