New BMW M8 to get new ‘M Mode’ and new Braking Technology

The new BMW M8 will officially debut in June and will feature a new ‘M Mode’ for detailed configuration, and new braking technology.

The BMW 8 Series Coupe and Convertible are now out in the wild, and the 8 Series Gran Coupe just around the corner.

But despite the M8 being developed alongside the regular 8 Series models, it still hasn’t been revealed in production guise, although that will change when the M8, Coupe and Convertible debut next month (June 2019) with the M8 Gran Coupe to follow in its wake.

BMW has been busy teasing the M8 for the last couple of years, but now, with a debut imminent, we get a bit more information with news it will feature a new ‘M Mode’ and new braking technology.

The new M Mode will allow drivers to set displays and configurations, with regular M8s getting Road and Sport modes and the M8 Competition adding a Track mode too.

In Road Mode everything is as BMW intends, but hit the M Mode button and the Sport setting arrives and you’ll only get speed limit and overtaking restriction information and no intervention on braking and steering (except collision stuff).

In the M8 Competition you can hold the M Mode button down and get Track Mode, which switches off all comfort and safety systems and even switches off the radio so you can concentrate.

Setup is done with a single press of a button, giving options on engine, suspension, steering, brakes and M xDrive, with thye conventional vacuum brake booster replaced by a new electric motor which applies force to the master cylinder.

Faster and more precise, the new brake technology is said to give consistent feedback even in mad cornering and in wet and slippery conditions.
