BMW M8 Competition Coupe and Convertible
The new BMW M8 Competition is revealed as a coupe and convertible, delivering 616bhp, 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds and a starting price of £123,435.
It’s no secret that the new BMW M8 has been on the way – with BMW busy teasing the M8 for two years – but it hasn’t landed in the UK as ‘just’ the M8, but as the rather bonkers – and rather pricey – BMW M8 Competition.Perhaps the most startling news is that the new M8 Competition starts at £123,435 for the Coupe and rises by another £7k for the Convertible. So it’s starting to play in the same league as the Bentley Continental GT (well, almost), and is the most expensive BMW M car to date.
Power comes from the same 616bhp 4.4 litre V8 turbo as the M5 Competition, enough for the a 3.2 second dash to 62mph in the Coupe and on to 189mph if you pay extra for the privilege.
Just like the M5, the M8 Competition is four-wheel drive, but only when you want to be quick off the line or its slippy. The rest of the time you can, if you’re brave enough, send the power just to the back and get tail happy.

There’s also new engine mountings to tie things together better, adaptive suspension, and the new adjustable brakes BMW revealed a bit back just so you can get the setup even more wrong without trying too hard.
There’s just about the right amount of aggressive looks dialled in to make the M8 Competition look handsome instead of mad, and the interior sets bespoke switch gear, a titivated infotainment and M instrument display.
You can now toddle off to your local BMW dealer and plonk down £123,435 for the M8 Competition Coupe or £130,435 for the M8 Competition Convertible. Expect first UK customer cars to arrive in October.
