New Land Rover Defender
The new Land Rover Defender will be available in three sizes – 90, 110 and 130 – and four ‘styles – Country, Adventure, Urban and Explorer.
We’re only a couple of months away from the official debut of the new Land Rover Defender, but there’s not going to be a huge amount left to know and see by the time it does officially arrive. We already have a pretty good idea how the new Defender will look, we know it will offer both Performance and Luxury models and that there will be a Defender to suit your lifestyle, whatever you lifestyle.
Now we get more detail on what that broad range of Defender will look like, thanks to leaks form a JLR briefing.
We’d expected the new Defender to come in 90 and 110 ‘sizes’, but now we learn there will be a ‘130’ model too, and there will be four ‘style’ options on offer as well as the model designations S, SE and X.
The Defender 90 will be the ‘iconic’ model with three doors and a spare wheel on the boot, with a bench seat in the front and echoing what we all think of as a Defender.
The 110 size will be the mainstream model, coming with seating for up to seven, and the 130 – which will be launched later – being the ultimate model with seating for up to eight and a stretched body; the same 3002mm wheelbase as the 110 but with an elongated body at the back.
The style themes on offer look to cover all potential bases, with a ‘Country’ spec for the weekender, an Adventure spec to deliver a regular SUV feeling, Urban spec for Cheshire, Surrey and Essex and an Explorer spec for those who want their Defender to do what a Defender should.
Initial engine options look to be mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines with a plug-in hybrid to follow, all with an auto ‘box and four-wheel drive.
