‘CHEAP’ Porsche 911 Carrera launched
The new entry-level Porsche 911 Carrera launches with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six producing 382bhp. But it still costs a bit over £83k.
Porsche 911 Carreras aren’t cheap – that’s, relatively speaking, Boxster and Cayman territory – but now there is a cheap, by 911 standards, entry-level 911 Carrera, although it will still cost you almost £84k even for the Coupe. The Cabriolet comes in at £92.5kUnder the bonnet (sorry, boot) still sits a a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six, but unlike the 911 Carrera S it’s detuned to a lowly 382bhp thanks to downsized turbos. Still, it’ll scoot you to 62mph in 4.2 seconds, and if you add Sport Chrono (you may as well) it’ll make it in 4.0 seconds flat.
At first you’ll only be able to get the new 911 Carrera with a PDK ‘box, but a manual is going on offer next year and might see prices drop a bit closer to £80k.
Porsche reckons the only place you’ll notice the Carrera is any different to the Carrera S is with the power, because the interior is fitted to the same standard, complete with 10.9″ infotainment, and you still get the stuff like the new ‘Wet’ mode to keep things together when it slippy.
There are cosmetic differences outside to make sure proper Porsche anoraks can look down their nose at your Porker, with slightly smaller wheels and slightly smaller tail pipes. And no S badges.
But you could fix all that if you wish.
