Mercedes Vision EQS Concept – Mercedes points the way to an ELECTRIC S-Class

The Mercedes Vision EQS Concept is revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show as Mercedes points the way to a future electric S-Class.

We had a tease for a new electric Mercedes Concept heading for the Frankfurt Motor Show last week, and it seemed likely it would be a Mercedes EQS concept, And it is.

Revealed today in Frankfurt, the Mercedes Vision EQS Concept points the way clearly to a future electric S-Class, with a new platform underpinning it and new dimensions for Mercedes’ range-topping car.

The freedom not having the need to stick an ICE under the bonnet sees an S-Class with unfamiliar proportions and surfacing; gone is the long bonnet you’d expect to find on an S-Class, replaced by a cab-forward design with smooth panels, rear lights flush with the surface, a blue LED grille and a paint job which looks to have been done by Maybach.

Inside is almost yacht-like, again with smooth surfaces and a sloping dashboard, an angled centre screen and side displays too.

There’s not a massive amount of information on the EQS’s powertrain, but Mercedes do say it gets around 100kWh from its battery, delivers 469bhp and can scoot to 62mph in under 4.5 seconds, sending power to all four wheels.

It will also be able to go 435 miles between charges, and with the ability to charge at up to 350kW it can go to 80 per cent in under 20 minutes.

IS the Mercedes EQS heading for production? It looks like it.
