Electric Audi E-Tron improved range
The Audi E-Tron, Audi’s electric SUV, has been given a bit of a tweak and now boasts the incresed range available on the E-Tron Sportback.
The Audi E-Tron – Audi’s electric SUV – may only have been available for five minutes, but it’s already coming in for a bit of an upgrade.Following the reveal of the production version of the E-Tron Sportback last week, Audi has announced, as expected, that most of the improvements over the E-Tron rolled out in the Sportback will now be available on the E-Tron too.
The headline news, especially for an electric car, is that the range has been improved, now delivering 271 miles on a single charge, up from the previous 251 miles.
That additional range has been made possible by taking the reworked regenerative braking system on the E-Tron Sportback, and the ability to disconnect the front motor, to help deliver the improved range, along with a reworked cooling system.
The tweaks Audi has wrought to the E-Tron only apply to the (currently) range-topping 55 quattro models, with the entry-level E-Tron 50 quattro – announced in August – unchanged.
Audi hasn’t told us if the current price of the E-Tron 55 will change in the UK with the updates, but as German prices are remaining the same we’d expect no increase on the current price, although the arrival of the E-Tron S Line adds a new option.
