The Transfagarasan Road in the Carpathian Mountains - Scene of e new TG episode

The Transfagarasan Road in the Carpathian Mountains - Scene of e new TG episode

The Top Gear Crew are out filming Series 14 in Romania on the stunning Transfagarasan Road in the Carpathian Mountains with a Ferrari, an Aston Martin and a Lamborghini.

We won’t get the latest series of Top Gear (Series 14) on our screens until November, but the Top Gear Crew are out filming – in HD, no less – in Romania. Why Romania? Well, you only need to take one look at the picture of the Transfagarasan Road in the Carpathian Mountains above – which the Romanian Authorities have obligingly closed – to see why. You can just see the Mad Mullah of North Wales doing the same for the boys, can’t you?

The Transfagarasan Road runs through some of the most stunning scenery in the Carpathian Mountains, with endless, sweeping, twisty roads and sound enhancing tunnels. So the boys are going to have fun. What are they driving? It looks like they have a Lamborghini LP560-4 Spyder, an Aston Martin DBS Volante and a Ferrari California. So hopefully they had good weather.

The boys – Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May – appear to have made a good impression on the locals, enjoying the delights of the local cuisine and imbibing the local hooch. Should be a good episode.

It’s a hard life.

George, I suggest you go get a life.
Indeed they are always sardonical and all that, just look for the episodes in which American cars are presented. The tongue-in-cheek is MUCH more obvious.

I am Romanian and, personally, I believe the three of them were great. They let all those kids from the village scribble stupid stuff on the cars, and let’s not forget those are REALLY expensive vehicles.

James is forgiven for saying the language was Hungarian though, since he gave a pretty nice review of the Sandero! 😀

Top Gear may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but despite your negative POV they same to have done your country a lot of good with their Romanian episode. Bucharest Life said “…this is just about the best advert for Romania seen on UK television at any time over the past 20 years.”

Which – assuming Romania would like more Tourism – is a good result for just having to suffer a few jibes from the TG boys. And if you’ve seen any other TG episodes you will realise it’s certainly not personal. The Michael will be extracted whoever you are – Prince or Pauper – and regardless of creed, colour or nationality.

And long may it be so.

Thanks Top Gear for being in Romania! But I’ve got just a few observations to make. I didn’t understand why you went especially to visit a gypsy village? They are only 3 or 4% of the general population. The language spoken by the lorry driver who hit the Sandero was Romanian, not Hungarian. Also the clip with Dacia Sandero, which allegedly was from a Romanian bar, is actually spoken in Russian language. Romanian language is a Latin language and has nothing to do with Russian or Hungarian, either. Romania has Carpathians Mountains, Black Sea and also Danube Delta and is really worth visiting it! You also should meet the real Romanian people and you’ll enjoy their warm, lovely hospitality; rest assured you won’t need to sleep in your car!

I bet you won’t find so many gypsies in Romania (you have to go to their villages to find them ,just like Clarckson did)

    @Mick deene
Search for road DN7C . Assuming your trip starts from Bucharest, you must head to the city of Pitesti, then take the road to “Curtea de Arges”, which is actually DN7C. From there,  just keep the main road and you’ll be there. You might mix the roads a little at the barrage, but nothing a map/GPS won’t do.

By the way, the road isn’t near as bad as it appears to be on the show, they made it so they go through that crappy gipsy village.

Avoid all fake-Hollywood large crappy sunglasses kinda’ dudes and you’ll actually find a pleasant country.

    Cheers.

Not our day! Sorry, Catalin. Nice to see the Top Gear boys giving your beautiful country some good publicity. And you’re right. The TG boys don’t act like stars. They’re just petrol-heads like the rest of us. They just got lucky and get the BBC budget to play with!

The series is actualkly 14, the cuisine is special, the weather was really great and the locals were truly happy to see them 😀
    One of the locals 😉
PS: On eo f the things that the people who actually sat down with them are sure to have appreciated is the fact that (even after seven years of superstardom) they still behaved as three regular blokes. Greatest appreciation for that.
