The new Mercedes EQE arrives as Mercedes’ electric take on the E-Class, delivering a smaller ‘Executive’ EV with up to 412 miles of range.
Mercedes may have started its electric posh saloon push with the all-singing, all-dancing EQS, but now it’s the turn of the E-Class to spawn an all-new – although almost completely unrelated – electric model. Say hello to the new Mercedes EQE.Just like the EQS – with which it shares much of its looks – the EQE comes with a shortish bonnet, slippery shape, long wheelbase and the promise of good range and, eventually, impressive performance.
The launch EQE is the EQE 350 which comes with a single electric motor at the back good for a modest 288bhp, although four-wheel drive two motor – and AMG versions with pushing on 700bhp – are in the pipeline too.
The EQE 350, though, is a good mainstream starting point with its 90kWh battery delivering up to 410 miles of range (depending on spec) and with 170kW charging promising a 150-mile top-up in as little as a quarter of an hour, and variable regenerative braking to recoup energy
The suspension setup for the EQE is similar to the EQS, although much of what might be standard on the EQS will be an option, like air suspension with active damping, rear-wheel steering, HEPA filters and more.
Inside you can, if you wish, fork out for the Hypercreen mega-screenage of the EQS in an interior that doesn’t vary massively from the EQS, with a 12.3″ digital instrument screen and 12.8″ infotainment screen the default offering.
Mercedes’ Markus Schäfer said:
After the EQS, the EQE is already the second model on our new platform for luxury- and premium-class electric vehicles. This speed of innovation shows the advantages of the scalable architecture: With the new EQE, we can quickly make the high-tech solutions of our electric flagship EQS available to a wider group of buyers. And our production flexibility reaches new heights with the EQE: at the Bremen plant, where the versions for the world market roll off the production line, four other models are already in production.
