Mercedes has updated its C-Class saloon and Estate (the ICE Versions) with C-Class EV looks and Euro 7 engines.
Mercedes has seen the light when it comes to flogging EVs, moving from the blobby ‘EQ’ models to make EV a powertrain choice (sort of) rather than a design one. That move has already seen the arrival of Mercedes EVs which look like actual Mercedes models, with the latest being the arrival of the new C-Class Electric back in April to take on the new BMW i3.
The arrival of the C-Class EV meant the ICE C-Class was out of step with its new sibling, so Mercedes has delivered a makeover for the ICE C-Class to make it look more like its EV model.
The tweaks aren’t exactly extensive, but there are new headlights and star-shaped DLRs, and new taillights on the Saloon, as well as a grille update to mimic, more or less, the EV’s.
Inside is carried over pretty much, so there’s sensible screenage instead of the huge display in the EV, although it does now run the latest UI with more AI support and OTA updates. There are also some actual physical controls on the new steering wheel.
Engine options are broadly the same as the current C-Class, with tweaks including more power for the C300e, less EV range on the PHEV models, a couple of new diesel models, and a drop in power for the entry-level C200.
Mercedes’ Mathias Geisen said:
The new C?Class proves that continuity and innovation are not mutually exclusive. With its sporty elegance, electrified high-tech powertrains and intelligent support powered by MB.OS, it delivers what drivers truly need: proven reliability and innovative technology that creates real added value in everyday life. In this way, a familiar classic becomes a modern companion.
