Full UK price and specification details have been released for the Alfa Romeo Giulia, with prices for the entry-level Giulia starting at £29,810.
It’s been a while since the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio showed its face and threatened the BMW M3’s dominance, and getting on for six months since the rest of the new Alfa Giulia range was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.
But now the more prosaic Giulia’s are heading for an Alfa Romeo showroom near you, Alfa has come up with UK pricing and specs which sees the Jaguar XE, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C Class competitor starting off at £29,180.
That £29k buys you an entry-level model not even worthy of its own trim level – it’s just the Alfa Giulia – with Hobson’s choice of a 2.0 litre petrol turbo with 197bhp and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
But even if Alfa can’t run to a trim name for the entry-level Giulia, they haven’t been too stingy with its spec, including 16″ alloys, 6.5″ touchscreen, Bluetooth, Cruise, DAB, Climate, Keyless, auto lights and wipers and parking sensors as standard.
But the entry-level Giulia also gets a rather impressive set of electronic safety nannies in the price, with Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Brake, Integrated Brake System and Lane Departure Warning all in the price.
Another £1,700 on top of the entry-level Giulia buys you in to the Giulia Super and also adds the choice of a 2.0 litre turbo diesels with either 148bhp or 177bhp (the only part of the new Giulia range where you get a choice of three engines).
The Giulia Super adds in stuff like 17″ alloys, 8.8″ Sat Van plus 6.6″ display, dual chrome exhaust tips, leather and cloth upholstery and a two tone dashboard. The Giulia Super costs £30,880 for the 2.0 litre petrol, £30,750 for the 148bhp diesel and £31,950 for the 177bhp.
The next rung up is the Giulia Tecnica – only available with the diesels and adding – adds in a cooled glovebox, rear view camera, power seats and privacy glass. Oddly, the Tecnica is just £250 more than the Super.
Top of the tree, apart from the £59,000 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, is the Giulia Speciale which only comes with the 2.2 litre diesel with 177bhp and gets all Alfa’s toys thrown at it, including 18″ sports alloys, power seats, heated seats, leather, sports bumpers and more.
The whole pricing structure for the Giulia sets it head to head with the Germans (and the Jaguar XE) from top to bottom. And that’s a big game to play.
We should start to fin just how well the Giulia does stack up in the real world when it starts to arrive here, but despite releasing full prices and specs Alfa hasn’t said when there will be customer cars, and only commits to the Giulia going on sale in the UK “later this year”.
