Amazon’s ‘New’ Top Gear Show will NOT be Gear Knobs

The new Amazon Prime show featuring the Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will not be called ‘Gear Knobs’, Clarkson has confirmed.

After Jeremy Clarkson – and subsequently Richard Hammond and James May – left Top Gear after the Clarkson ‘fracas’, we all waited to see where they would jump to. And the ‘where’ is Amazon Prime, with a new motoring show said to have a £160 million budget. But what will the new Top Gear Amazon show be called?

Speculation seemed to have pinned that down to ‘Gear Knobs’ a few weeks ago, when a law firm known to act for Clarkson registered the name – along with ‘Speedbird’, thought to be a new character as a replacement for the Stig – but it seems not.

Jeremy has taken to Twitter to quash the rumour, stating – quite categorically – it won’t be Gear Knobs:

I see that many people think our new show is called Gear Knobs. Well you heard it here first. It isn’t.

Still, that will leave room for more speculation (we prefer ‘Top Knobs’), but what really matters is the content, and if the chemistry between the three can be replicated away from the BBC.

But with a head-to-head between the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918 lined up for (perhaps) the opening episode of Amazon’s ‘New’ Top Gear, it is looking promising.
