We’ve had the leaks and teases on the Audi A5 Sportback, and now it’s official.
Audi are on a mission to fill every niche that exists – and some that don’t – in order to reach their goal of selling 1.5 million cars a year by 2015. Set to go on sale in the UK and Europe (but not the US) after the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the Audi A5 Sportback is said to offer the practicality of an estate with the elegance of a Coupe.
And in many ways it does offer that. There is ample room for passengers, and you can fit up to 980L of ‘Stuff’ in the back – which is as much as most people will ever need. And it will be the cheapest car in the A5 lineup, which makes it not just practical but cost-effective.
Engine choices at launch will be 3 diesels and three petrols. The 2.0 litre TFSI 4- pot comes in two power options – 180bhp and 211bhp – with the 3.2 litre V6 making up the third petrol option. The diesels on offer are the 2.0 litre TDI with 170bhp plus the 2.7 litre and 3.0 litre V6. The four cylinder engines all come with Audi’s Stop Start and the V6s all get four wheel drive. Three more engines will be made available in 2010.
There will of course be more detail closer to the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. UK Deliveries will start in October, with price starting at £27,140 for the 2.0 TDI manual and going up to £34,020 for the 3.0 TDI S-tronic
