Audi Q7 quattro – perfect for a ‘Dry’ Ski expert
The new Audi Q7 quattro features in a brand-raising video showing French ski champion Candide Thovex ‘Dry’ skiing down a mountain.
Whenever you see an advert for the Audi Q7 – or any big, premium SUV – on a mountain, it tends to be all about how brilliant it is at dealing with ice and snow. But in an effort to create a ‘viral’ video for the new Q7, Audi has taken a different tack.Instead of lots of snow and ice, they chose – or rather their ad agency, Lowe Strateus, chose – a mountain in the summer months, but they still managed to feature a skier flying downhill, but not on the sort of terrain you’d normally associate with skiing.
Instead we get to see French ski champion Candide Thovex racing down a mountain and dealing with grassy slopes, dusty paths, wooden bridges and crop-heavy fields instead of the usual ice and snow.
On the way down, Thovex manages to have sparks flying from his skis, the odd flip and spin, flies over a tractor and finally lands in the back of his Audi Q7 at the end of the run.
The plan seems to have been to deliver a video that created viral interest (it’s had over 1.3 million views on YouTube in the last four days) and appealed to a different audience to the usual Q7 crowd, featuring the Q7 only at the end of the video as Thovex drives back up the mountain to do it all again.
