Audi SQ5 TDI Plus adds more power to Audi’s most sporty diesel Q5

The Audi SQ5 TDI Plus has been revealed as a more powerful version of the SQ5 TDI, getting an extra 27bhp and a sports diff at the back for better power distribution.

The Audi SQ5 TDI was the the first Audi S model to come with a diesel engine when it arrived three years ago, offering impressive performance as well as decent economy, a combination that is still very appealing.

But Audi has clearly decided the SQ5 TDI needs to offer a bit more to keep pace with more recent arrivals, so they’re launching the SQ5 TDI Plus with more power and a bit more ability.

The Audi SQ5 TDI Plus gets an extra 27bhp and 37lb/ft of torque – it has 335bhp and 517lb/ft – although its official performance figures – 0-62mph in 5.1 seconds – remain the same, although in the real world, with the extra torque, the SQ5 Plus should feel livelier. It comes with official economy of 42mpg and emissions of 174g/km.

The SQ5 Plus also comes with Audi’s quattro 4WD plus a sport differential at the back to keep power distribution even – a first for the SQ5.

Cosmetic upgrades include an extended gloss black package that covers door handles, mirrors, diffuser and roof spoiler, tweaks to the tail pipes, Nappa leather with silver diamond pattern, sliding back seats and leather armrests on the doors. Also on offer is a limited run of 100 with ‘Macaw’ Blue’ crystal-effect paint.

No UK prices for the SQ5 TDI have been released yet, but it should come in the right side of £50k (the regular SQ5 TDI costs from £44,785).
