It’s reported that Bentley are planning a road-going version of the Continental GT3 track car with 700bhp. Will debut at 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The idea that the Bentley Continental GT3 – Bentley’s track special – will, at some point, turn in to a road car has been around for a couple of years. But it seemed unlikely.
It seemed unlikely because a stripped-out Continental with a GT3 badge, pushing on 700bhp and stripped of many of its luxuries would step on the toes of what we expected – a new Continental Supersports.
But Autocar are convinced that Bentley are about to reveal a GT3 for the road, and will be doing so at the Goodwood Festival of Speed at the end of this month.
The Bentley GT3 will come with lots of carbon fibre body panels and rear wheel drive in an effort to cut the difference of m ore than 100kg between the lightest road-going Continental and the track GT3.
You can also expect many of the every day luxuries you take for granted in a Bentley to be lost too in an effort to cut weight, and to give the 700bhp the GT3 is expected to get the best chance to shine.
But it seems the Continental GT3 is set to be a limited run of only 30 or so cars, bolted together by Bentley’s race engineers and commanding s significant price.
Which means there’s still room for a new Continental Supersports.
