Bloodhound SSC 1,000mph record attempt car revealed
The Bloodhound SSC rocket and jet propelled car built to attempt a 1,000mph world land speed record has been revealed in its final guise with 133,151bhp.
The Koenigsegg One:1 – Koeniogsegg’s MegaCar – comes with around 1300bhp and is one of the most powerful cars in the world. But its mighty output pales in to insignificance compared to the combined output of the Bloodhound SSC rocket and jet propelled car – revealed in final world record attempt guise – which can muster a massive 133,151bhp – around 100 times more than the mighty Koenigsegg. The Bloodhound is 13.5 metres long, most of which is taken up by its propulsion systems: a Rolls Royce EJ200 jet engine from the Typhoon to kick things off, a hybrid rocket to take it on from 650mph and a Jaguar 5.0 litre supercharged engine to pump 40 litres a second of propellant in to the rocket.
The combination of the three powerplants delivers an output of 133,151bhp, which the team in charge of Bloodhound say will mean it can hit 1,000mph in 55 seconds when it attempts the record in 2017.
Ahead of that record attempt, the Bloodhound will have an outing in Newquay next spring with a run up to 200mph, and a run in the desert in South Africa in October 2016 when it will attempt to take the existing land speed record of 763mph, currently held by the man who will drive the Bloodhound – Andy Green.
