BMW 2 Series Coupe, and 2 Series Convertible, get the mildest of updates for 2017

The BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible get mild updates for 2017, with small cosmetic tweaks inside and out, but engine options stay the same.

The BMW 2 Series arrived at the Paris Motor Show in 2014 as BMW started to move its coupes in to a new nomenclature, with the BMW 2 Series cars replacing the old 1 Series Coupe and Convertible.

Now, a couple of years on from when the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible started to arrive on UK roads, BMW is giving the 2 Series a bit of a tweak for 2017, although it really is only a bit of a tweak.

Doing just enough to make the 2016 2 Series look like last year’s model, the 2017 2 Series gets a slightly bigger kidney grille, a set of new LED headlights, new tail lights and new alloy designs. And that’s about it for the outside.

Inside comes in for a similarly minor update, with modest tweaks to the dashboard layout, slightly different instruments and an 8.8″ infotainment screen boasting a new iDrive system.

As far as we can see, nothing has changed in the engine line-up, with the usual range of diesel and petrol engines to suit your budget, with six-speed manual as standard on most, but and eight-speed auto option.

Rear-wheel drive stays as the default for the 2 Series – which is now quite a novelty in this part of the market – but you can opt for four-wheel drive xDrive on the 220d and M240i.

BMW has sold 140,000 2 Series in the last couple of years, and this refresh is aimed at keeping sales buoyant. On sale now, the 2017 BMW 2 Series isn’t likely to go up much in price from the current £23.5k starting price.
