BMW and MINI launch PAYG access to new cars
BMW and MINI have launched monthly pay as you go subscriptions for new cars, in conjunction with Drover, with a new MINI costing from £562 per month all-in.
The idea that buyers of new cars no longer want to be buyers but would prefer to be entered is starting to gain traction, with companies like Volvo (and Polestar and Lynk & Co) hoping to draw us in to paying a fixed monthly fee to drive the car we want completely hassle free, and without commitment. The car industry looks like it’s starting to buy in to the whole car subscription idea in a big way, with the latest coming in to play from BMW and MINI, although they’ve outsourced their offerings.
BMW has announced what they’re calling a ‘Mobility Partnership’ with Drover to provide a monthly all-in option to get behind the wheel of a new BMW or MINI.
You can get in to a new MINI Hatch from £562 a month, or opt for a range of BMWs including 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 series, as well as X SUVs and ‘i’ models, which cost a chunk more, with a BMW 1 Series Sport costing £782 a month, an i3 £902 per month, an X3 £1,022 a month and a 4 Series Convertible £1,142 a month.
The prices do include everything – from insurance to maintenance, servicing, taxes and breakdown – and you can make the prices (a bit lower) by opting to sign-up for more than a month.
But it still feels an expensive way to run a car to us.
