BMW i4 EV revealed winter testing
New photos from BMW show the BMW i4 electric saloon winter testing alongside the upcoming BMW x3i and iNEXT.
As BMW move away from their slightly oddball electric car offerings – the i3 and i8 – we’ll start to see new electric BMWs arriving with more conventional styling. That will start with the arrival next year of the BMW iX3 – effectively an X3 with an EV powertrain – followed by a production version of the iNEXT a year later.
But the car which will perhaps be the one to watch is an electric take on the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, with the plan to launch it as the BMW i4 in 2021, just like the iNEXT, ahead of which we get our first look of the i4 as it starts winter testing alongside the iX3 and iNEXT.
Sadly, the i4 will be a bit behind the curve if it’s going to challenge the Tesla Model 3, but when it does arrive BMW say it will come with a range of 373 miles and hit 62mph in 4.0 seconds.
It will also use the CLAR Platform – a platform designed to underpin almost all BMW’s models and able to take ICE and electric powertrains – and be built alongside the regular 3 and 4 Series cars, and is expected to come with a number of power/range options in addition to the headline offering.
