BMW iNEXT EV out in the snow in first official photo
The BMW iNEXT – BMW’s electric SUV – is out testing in cold climates as BMW release the first official photos of the camouflaged electric SUV.
BMW are a bit behind the electric SUV curve at the moment, with the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC already on the way, but they’re readying their response with testing of the Vision iNEXT.The BMW iNEXT Concept broke cover last September as BMW showcased a quirky style take on what they see as the future of electric BMW SUVs, and now they’re busy testing the iNEXT in winter weather in Sweden, readying for a production debut expected in 2021
The official photos of the iNEXT BMW has released are camouflaged, but they do show that the production take on the iNEXT will be a bit more mainstream than the concept.
The odd doors are gone, replaced by conventional doors and a proper B-Pillars, and the bonkers front end of the concept seems to have given way to a more conventional design.
BMW see the iNEXT as a technology flagship, and as such it will feature Level 3 Autonomy, pure electric drive, intelligent all-wheel-drive and model specific suspension, all of which are being tested in the cold climate of Sweden, the toughest sort of testing for an EV.
When the iNEXT does arrive it is expected to come with a 120kWH battery pack and range of up to 400 miles. But what will it be called?
A year or two ago we’d have expected it to be the BMW i5, but BMW’s new electric plans mean that’s unlikely. Perhaps BMW will stay mainstream and call it the iX5, with the next regular ICE X5 built on the same platform?

Don’t see this looking anything like i-Next cars. Looks like a standard X3 with a bigger grille. Good.
