Back in March we reported that BMW were heading for the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a new M model, and that looks set to be a special M5.
The first BMW M5 – the E28 5 Series – made its debut at the Amsterdam Motor SHow in February 1994 with a 3.5 litre six-pot and 282bhp, making it the quickest production saloon in the world.
But 30 years is a long time in the car world, and even though the latest BMW M5 sports up to 575bhp – when fitted with the Competition Package – it is no longer the fastest saloon car in the world, or even the quickest in its segment; the E63 AMG and Audi RS6 are quicker.
But the 30th Anniversary special could change that balance a bit with reports it is set to get 600bhp or more when it gors on sale after its Goodwood debut, although it will be a limited edition of just 300 units.
It seems the official announcement of the 30th Anniversary BMW M5 will be alter this week, so we’ll update then.
