The Chevrolet Trax – the Chevrolet take on the Vauxhall Mokka – has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show in September.
We reported a few months ago that we could expect the Chevrolet Trax at the Paris Motor Show, but ahead of that reveal Chevrolet has sent us some photos of the Trax and a few details.Effectively the Chevrolet take on the Opel and Vauxhall Mokka (and, for that matter, the Buick Encore), the Trax gets a a Chevy makeover for the front and back and the required rebadging.
Engines on offer will include a 13bhp 1.6 litre petrol, a 1.4 litre turbo petrol and a 1.7 litre diesel engine that produces 129bhp and a decent 221lb/ft of torque. Opt for a manual ‘box and you’ll also get stop-start to help with economy and emissions.
As well as the standard manual ‘box with stop-start you will be able to opt for an auto box on the 1.4 litre turbo and 1.7 litre diesel and add 4WD if you need to do boot sales as well as the school run.
We have no prices yet for the Chevrolet Trax, but with plans for it to go on sale before the end of 2012 we should have soon.

Yes I know the Mokka and the Trax are the same car underneath but surely that’s a rather simplistic way of describing what look to be totally different vehicles. The front end and wheelarch blisters front and rear make the Chevy look a lot chunkier than the fairly bland Mokka. I find the Chevy the more ‘interesting’ car, but it is a bit too ‘in your face’ for my liking. But then the Mokka is just so…. dull. When I come to renew my car, there is no possibility of me considering either car, even though they could well suit my requirements as far as size and abilities are concerned. I know GM are trying to give the Chevrolet brand its own look and the Opel/Vauxhall brand its own look, but surely they can produce something in between these two extremes.

We do agree with much of what you say and, yes, the Chevy does look more ‘Butch’. But we were only giving a quick overview; we’ll return to the Trax when we see it at Paris next month.
