Peugeot Citroen has become embroiled in the Toyota sticking throttle mess and are recalling Citroen C1s and Peugeot 107s.
Update: We have heard from Citroen who tell us just 36 C1s in the UK are affected by the sticking accelerator problem.
Update 2: We’ve now heard from Peugeot who say 6,000 Peugeot 107s in the UK are affected by the faulty throttle pedal.
This last few days have turned out to be a real nightmare for Japanese car makers, with first the Toyota recall for a sticking accelerator and then the Honda Jazz/Fit recall for a faulty electric window switch. But in this age of manufacturer co-operation deals it was always likely the recall would spread – and it has.
Peugeot Citroen have announced that they are to follow Toyota by recalling Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 models which may be afflicted with the same sticky throttle issues as the Toyotas. Both the C1 and the 107 are the same car as the Toyota Aygo under the skin and are made in the same factory in the Czech Republic.
As it’s Sunday details are a bit thin on the ground, but it appears that there are likely to be around 100,000 Peugeot Citroen cars affected in Europe – built between 2005 and mid-2009 – although most of these have been sold in Eastern Europe. We have no news yet of whether any UK cars are involved, but we’ll update here as soon as we get clarification from PSA.

You buy a new car with a 3yr warranty not knowing that this is a warranty with restrictions.How can a car maker say that a clutch is the same as tyres, brake pads,which wear so are not covered under warranty.Once a car is driven it starts to wear,and a clutch by virtue of its use and design will wear My wife a driver in our buisiness has never had an accident or bump in any of the cars she has driven,and in these days of lousy drivers would be considered a very safe and very good driver. Citreon say clutch problem,not our problem.For a 2008 car with 35000 mls driven cautiously by a retired lady this a damn disgrace which I her husband will endevour to let as many people be aware of in the hope that CITREON will be shamed into a repair under this vthicles warranty
So when is a new car warranty not a new car warranty,when that car is a NEW CITREON
