Citroen has given the green light to a ‘Hot’ version of the new DS3 – The Citroen DS3 R3.
The Citroen DS3 is only just starting to hit the roads. And it does look to be a credible alternative to some of the other up-market compact cars on the road. But so far no news of a ‘Hot’ version of the new French Super-Mini. Until now.
It’s being reported that Citroen has given the green light to a more than slightly warm version of the DS3 – The Citroen DS3 R3. The DS3 R3 looks set to get the 1.6 litre four-pot turbo already used in the DS3 (and in the MINI), but with 200bhp on tap. Which will be enough to take on just about anything else in its sector.
Firmly in Citroen’s firing line are the Clio Renaultsport and the MINI Cooper S. With 200bhp at it’s disposal the DS3 R3 should make a very credible job of frightening the pants of those two. In terms of price it’s expected the the DS3 R3 will be pitched close to the Clio Renaultsport 200 (£17.5k) and the Cooper S (£17k). In terms of performance, the DS3 R3 will definitely have the edge.
Although the DS3 R3 seems to be a go, don’t expect it to hit showrooms much before 2011.
