Electric MG ZS EV UK debut this month
The MG ZS EV – MG’s electric take on the compact EZ SUV – will debut at the London Motor Show this month and go on sale in the UK in September.
We reported a couple of months ago that the MG EZ EV, an electric version of MG’s EZ SUV, will be sold in the UK following its debut in China, and it will – in September. With the announcement that the EZ EV will get its public debut in the UK this month – on 16 May at the London Motor & Tech Show at ExCel – MG also confirms it will go on sale in the UK on 1 September, although so far there are no prices or spec details.
That said, it’s highly likely the UK version of MG’s electric EZ will use the same 148bhp electric powertrain as its China sibling and be a chunk cheaper than cars like the Hyundai Kona EV. But the lower price will come with a few disadvantages.
Chief amongst those is the range, a range likely to be more in line with the Nissan LEAF’s 150 miles or so, rather than the near 300 miles the electric Kona and Kia eNiro offer.
But price is likely to be the big plus for the MG (and it comes with a 7-year warranty, like the Kia), although don’t expect prices to be anywhere near the entry-level price of the EZ at under £13k.
But a price of £20k or so seems a sensible target.
