Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff – NEW hosts of Top Gear
With Matt LeBlanc retiring from Top Gear, it’s announced his replacement is a pair of Lancashire lads – Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness.
Top Gear has gone through some turbulent changes in recent years, after Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May left for Amazon, with a failed re-boot with Chris Evans at the helm and front seats for Sabine Schimtz and Eddie Jordan failing to float viewers’ boat. But the current line-up – with Matt LeBlanc front and centre supported by Chris Harris and Rory Reid – works pretty well, but that all has to change now Matt LeBlanc has decided Top Gear is too much like hard work. So, following the next series of Top Gear – Series 26 – which will air in early 2019, it’s all change.
Clearly TG reckon no single presenter can replace Matt LeBlanc, so we’re getting two new presenters – Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff – with Chris Harris remaining and Rory Reid relegated to a support role.
Flintoff may be an ex-cricketer, but he’s shown he’s a more than able ‘presenter’ in shows like A League of their Own on Sky, outings with his Fish and Chip van and even a podcast for 5 Live – Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy.
McGuinness is best known for Take Me Out, but he’s a ubiquitous TV face thanks to his friendship with Peter Kaye, and very used to being front and centre, which augers well.
Who knows if the two will gel on screen – alongside Chris Harris who remains – but perhaps the BBC think a pair of Lancashire lads will find common ground in tripe and clogs – and cars.
Series 27 of Top Gear with Flintoff, McGuinness and Harris will start filming in the New Year and air later in the year.

IF they try and copy the Clarkson, Hammond and May format again then they’ll fail just as the previous mob – it was embarrassing to watch them try and emulate the original 3.
