Hyundai HDC-2 Grandmaster Concept
The Hyundai HDC-2 Grandmaster Concept SUV has been revealed at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea, continuing the preview of Hyundai’s new design language.
Back at the Geneva Motor Show in March, Hyundai revealed the HDC-1 Le Fil Rouge Concept, bringing us our first look at Hyundai’s new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language, a design language Hyundai promised will be incorporated in all its future cars – from saloon to SUV.Hyundai has now emphasised the flexibility of their new design language by applying it to a new Concept – the Hyundai HDC-2 Grandmaster – which has had its debut at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea.
The similarities between the HDC-1 and HDC-2 are mainly the great big grille on the front of the Grandmaster, a grille which almost makes the grille on the new Audi Q8 look subtle, and if this is a grille heading for the production take on the Grandmaster you’re certainly going to know what’s coming up behind when you look in the mirror.
Hyundai say the Grandmaster reinterprets Hyundai’s design and harmonises four key elements – proportion, architecture, styling and technology – to deliver cars which are both desirable and emotionally satisfying.
But Hyundai has released virtually no real detail on the Grandmaster, but it looks like it’s previewing a new full-sized Hyundai SUV to sit above the Santa Fe. Whether that makes it to the UK and Europe remains to be seen, and what powers it – although you can bet on some form of electric power – is anyone’s guess at the moment.
SangYup Lee, Hyundai’s Head of Styling, said:
Making a big step forward in terms of design with the Hyundai Look strategy, we will move towards becoming a brand that customers can really relate to emotionally. Moving on from being a brand that provides a great value, we will aspire to also become a brand that is widely beloved by our customers.
It seems likely we’ll get to see more of the Hyundai Grandmaster Concept in the Autumn at the Paris Motor Show, and we might then find out what Hyundai will use to power its big new SUV.
